Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has disbursed a total of Rs 1600 crore to 4.25 lakh farmers who have been found ineligible for the aid under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sanman Nidhi scheme of the central government.
The central government introduced the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sanman Nidhi scheme in 2019 to assist small and marginal farmers. Every eligible farmer, aged 18 and above, receives Rs 2 thousand every four months, directly deposited into their bank account. Specific criteria have been established to determine eligibility for the scheme. In Gujarat, a total of 58 lakh farmers have benefited from the scheme. However, the state government has discovered that 4.52 lakh farmers received the aid despite being deemed ineligible according to the rules.
Farmers were deemed ineligible under the following circumstances: 1) Receiving aid after selling their land, 2) Receiving aid after removing their name from the 7/12 document, 3) Receiving aid in the name of a deceased farmer, and 4) Receiving aid while paying income tax. Thirteen installments of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sanman Nidhi scheme have already been disbursed, and the fourteenth installment of the scheme is currently suspended. The state government will recover the funds from the ineligible farmers by reversing the entry in their bank accounts. DeshGujarat
