Gujarat ranks 3rd in large-scale solar installations in India with 85% rise in Q1 2023: Report

Gandhinagar: Gujarat has achieved the third position in terms of total large-scale solar installations in the country, a report called ‘India Solar Market Update 2023’  by Mercom India said.

According to the report, During the first quarter of 2023, Gujarat experienced an impressive 85% increase in such installations, while solar installations across India declined by 30% in the same period.

From January to March 2023, Gujarat installed 261 megawatts (MW) of solar power, compared to 141MW in the previous quarter. This consistent growth has made Gujarat the state with the third-highest capacity for large-scale solar installations since the first quarter of 2022. Out of the total 1.9GW of solar installations in India during the January to March 2023 quarter, Gujarat accounted for 19% of new installations, lagging behind Karnataka (21%) and Rajasthan (42%), the report further states.

The increase can be attributed to the commissioning of Phase 9 of the 500MW solar projects by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) and the development of a large-scale project in Rajkot. DeshGujarat
