Congress leader Govabhai Rabari joins BJP with supporters in Banaskantha

Banaskantha: Senior Congress leader and former legislator Govabhai Rabari joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today in an event held in Deesa. Gujarat BJP state president CR Patil welcomed him into the party. Alongside Govabhai, his son Sanjay Rabari also joined the BJP, along with a large number of his supporters.

In addition, Govabhai’s brother Jagamalbhai Rabari, former presidents of Lakhni taluka panchayat and Tharad municipality, Deepak Ojha, have also joined the BJP.

Govabhai, a resident of Kuchadva village in Deesa, has been associated with the Congress for 35 years. He served as MLA of Dhanera for one term and MLA of Deesa for two terms. He contested elections on the Congress mandate from Deesa, Diyodar, and Dhanera a total of seven times. His son Sanjay Rabari also contested the 2022 elections from the Deesa assembly seat as a Congress candidate.

Several other office bearers have also resigned from the Congress in support of Govabhai. His move to the BJP, facilitated by senior BJP leaders Shankar Chaudhary and Balwantji Rajput, is seen as a significant blow to the Congress in Banaskantha and North Gujarat, which could impact their prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
