Surat: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized liquid gold worth Rs 49 lakh from two passengers, including a woman arriving at Surat airport from a Sharjah flight. The passengers were carrying gold in their rectums.
The DRI is currently interrogating both individuals and suspects that they may have brought gold on previous occasions as well. The DRI received information about these two passengers carrying gold on a Shahjaha flight, prompting officials to set up surveillance at the airport. Upon the arrival of Imtiaz and Yasmin, officials conducted a thorough interrogation and discovered that they had concealed 800 grams of liquid gold in their rectums. It is worth noting that the Special Operations Group (SOG) had previously seized gold worth four and a half crore outside the airport. The woman is a resident of Navsari, while the man is from Surat.
People working as carriers frequently travel from Surat to Dubai and vice versa, transporting gold worth less than one crore to avoid arrest if apprehended by the DRI or Customs authorities. As per the regulations, arrests are typically made only when the value of the gold exceeds 1 crore. In the current case, both of the accused had brought gold in capsule form. Following a preliminary inquiry, the DRI handed them over to Customs. However, after questioning, Customs also released them. DeshGujarat
