ACB Gujarat nabs a cop in bribery case in Valsad

Umargaon: The Anti-Corruption Bureau of Gujarat has nabbed an additional head constable of Nargol Marine Police station in Umargaon, Valsad, in connection with a bribery case involving Rs. 20,000.

While the complainant was riding his moped from Daman to his home, the accused, Nainesh Maniyabhai Halapati, an Assistant Head Constable (AHC) of Nargol Marine Police Station at Paligam Char Rasta, stopped him and discovered two tins of Kingfisher Light Beer in the trunk of the moped. The accused then took the complainant to Nargol Marine Police Station, where he demanded Rs. 1,00,000 from the complainant.

The demand was made in exchange for not filing a case against the complainant for carrying liquor, not assaulting him, and preventing the seizure of the complainant’s mobile phone and Activa scooter as evidence. After negotiations, the accused settled on a bribe amount of Rs. 70,000. The complainant’s brother handed over Rs. 50,000 to accused Naineshbhai, but the remaining Rs. 20,000 was not paid at that time. Subsequently, a liquor offence was registered against the complainant, and the police continued to demand the remaining Rs. 20,000.

After facing constant demands for a bribe, the complainant contacted the ACB. As part of a trap arranged by the ACB, the accused engaged in a conversation with the complainant to accept the bribe of Rs. 20,000. However, upon noticing the presence of the ACB team, the accused quickly fled to a wild acacia field in an attempt to avoid capture. Despite the team identifying themselves, the accused refused to cooperate. Nevertheless, the team successfully nabbed the accused, who is now under detention. DeshGujarat
