All underpasses reopen; Ahmedabad partially sunny, not rainy, but cloudy in morning
July 01, 2023
Ahmedabad: Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) teams worked through night to clear, clean and reopen the Parimal, Akhbarnagar and Mithakhali underpasses that were shut for traffic last evening due to heavy rain. All underpasses were reopened for traffic post midnight. The city witnessed heavy rain measuring nearly 3 inches last evening (but double or more that that in some of the areas), causing unusual traffic jam at peak hours and water logging in many areas, especially the areas in Western part of the city. Water started receding within couple of hours after intensity of rain decreased late in the evening to around midnight. To allow fast discharge of water coming to the river through various drain water pipelines, the AMC opened seven gates of Vasna barrage. Due to heavy rain, the storm water pipeline network had too much water to carry and discharge in limited time with its limited capacity. As rain was also continuing the discharge was slow, which caused water logging issue. In newly developing areas, the topography-level changes due to constructions also caused water logging issues. The city of Ahmedabad had little rainfall post midnight. The morning today is partially sunny but cloudy.
