Ahmedabad: A unique initiative has been undertaken by the Ahmedabad Rural Police, where a program for the free distribution of helmets to all policemen in the district was organized by the village police. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Harsh Sanghavi, personally distributed the helmets to the policemen. With the support of various industrial houses, approximately 1,850 helmets were distributed free of charge.

It is worth mentioning that the incidents of road accidents are on the rise. To prevent such incidents and raise public awareness, the Ahmedabad Gramya Police organized a bike rally. The rally was flagged off by MoS Sanghavi.

During the event, Sanghavi congratulated the Ahmedabad Rural Police and the entire team for adopting this commendable approach. He expressed the government’s commitment to continue working on such campaigns in the future to reduce road accidents. Presently, 30 out of 100 fatalities in accidents are attributed to the lack of helmet usage.

Addressing the policemen, Sanghavi emphasized that wearing helmets ourselves enables us to enforce the same rule on citizens. He further highlighted the Gujarat government’s efforts to prevent road accidents.

It is worth mentioning that a few days ago, a woman ASI (Assistant Sub-Inspector) at the Sanand GIDC police station in the district lost her life in a road accident. In response to this incident, the Ahmedabad Rural SP, Mr. Amit Vasava, organized the distribution of free helmets to enhance the safety of all police officers and staff in the district. Additionally, wearing helmets became mandatory for all police personnel.

Under the Ahmedabad range, a pilot project has been launched in Kheda, Anand, and Ahmedabad districts by the State Traffic Department, Gandhinagar, on the suggestion of State Police Chief, Mr. Vikas Sahay. This project involved a special drive at 134 accident-prone locations based on accident statistics from previous years. Over 950 traffic awareness programs were conducted, reaching over 20,000 citizens and providing education about adhering to traffic rules.
