Concrete falls on car below state’s longest in-city flyover in Vadodara

Vadodara: A piece of concrete fell on a car passing below the longest flyover here in the city on Wednesday. The incident occurred at the Yoga Circle under the span of the flyover, where concrete came off from the gap between two slabs used to construct the bridge.
The falling cement could have caused injuries if it had landed on motorcyclists passing underneath the bridge, considering that the junction is heavily trafficked even at night. This 3.5 km-long bridge, known as the Atal Bridge, has a horizontal gap between slabs that serves as an expansion joint.
Alpesh Majmudar, the in-charge city engineer of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), explained that the minor gap was an expansion joint. He mentioned that while the bridge is being finished, any excess cement or loose material is typically removed, but some may have remained in this specific location.
VMC has issued a notice to the contractor responsible for building the bridge due to the potential danger it poses to road users below.VMC has also instructed the contractor to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future. DeshGujarat
