One booked for allegedly clicking photos of minor Hindu girl on Sabarmati Riverfront

Ahmedabad: The Sabarmati Riverfront Police station has registered a case against one Mohammad Almas Iqrar Qureshi for allegedly clicking pictures of a minor girl on the riverfront without her consent.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night at the Sabarmati riverfront when a 17-year-old girl, originally from Bhavnagar and currently residing in Ahmedabad’s Ranip area, was walking on the sidewalk of the riverfront. An individual named Yash Rajput approached the minor girl and conveyed that someone had been taking her photos.

Reacting to the information, the minor girl, along with her sister, approached the person and checked his phone. After verifying the photo on his phone, the minor girl promptly deleted it and reported the incident to the police. The individual in question was identified as Mohammad Almas Iqrar Qureshi, aged 19, residing at Jairamni Chali, Ranip Bakramandi.

The police, along with the Abhayam team, arrived at the scene and took both the minor girl and Mohammad Almas Iqrar Qureshi to the police station for further investigation.

While the police registered a case against the accused under section 354c of IPC, no section of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) was invoked, despite the victim being a minor.

In the wake of the incident, a number of Bajrang Dal activists also arrived at the scene and objected to the omission of the POCSO, as the victim is a minor. North Gujarat Bajrang Dal President Jwalit Mehta told the media that the omission of the POCSO shows negligence on the part of the police. DeshGujarat
