Four booked for controversial Facebook posts after Junagadh flood

Junagadh: Cybercrime police have filed a case against four people for posting a controversial message on their Facebook accounts. The accused Shahrukh Khan, Mahmood Pirzada, Sahikh Sabirsha, and one other are charged with referring to the recent heavy rain and flooding in the city as “an act of God” following the demolition of the Dargah Shirin a few days prior.

The police came across a tweet from a Hindu activist named ‘Kajal Hindustani,’ reporting objectionable videos aimed at disrupting the city’s peaceful atmosphere. Upon verification, the videos depicted the devastation caused by last week’s rain, showing floating vehicles and making references to the “Majar Ka Demolition” and “Pure Junagadh Ka Demolition.”

A head constable from the Junagadh cybercrime cell, Paresh Chavda, lodged an FIR against the four individuals under IPC sections 153 (A), 153 (B), and 505 (2). The accusation stated that they circulated the Facebook posts to exploit the sensitive situation in the city after the severe rain, which resulted in significant damage.

The FIR alleged that the posts aimed to disrupt peace, oppose the administration’s efforts to address the rain’s aftermath, mislead the public, threaten national unity, and disturb public peace. DeshGujarat
