Gujarat govt to study constitutional viability of mandatory parental consent for love marriages
July 31, 2023
Mehsana: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stated on Sunday that his government will explore the viability of introducing a mandatory parental consent system for love marriages, provided it aligns with the constitution.
While addressing the gathering at an event held by Sardar Patel Seva Dal in Nugar, Mehsana, CM Patel said, “When Rushikesh Bhai and I visited here, the issue of girls eloping for love marriages was brought to my attention. I want to assure you that a comprehensive study of the law and constitution will be conducted to check the feasibility of making parental consent obligatory for such marriages.”
The opposition Congress expressed its support for this decision, stating that at a time when parents feel neglected in the case of love marriages, the government is trying to find a constitutionally viable solution. DeshGujarat
