River bridge on national highway in Gujarat shut as sand mining damaged its foundation

Chhota Udepur: A river bridge on Bharaj river near Sihod on Bodeli – Chhotaudepur National Highway No 56 is closed for traffic due to damages that the bridge has suffered de to uncontrolled and mindless sand mining just next to its pillars and foundations.
The structure is suspected to be unsafe for transportation as one pillar of the bridge descended by one inch along with the foundation due to sand mining. A team of the officials and engineers of National Highway Authority of India conducted a site visit of the bridge in the morning yesterday. They observed the foundation and other components of the bridge.
The police barricade is placed on both sides of the bridge to restrict vehicle transportation. The vehicles are diverted from Dholakiya chokdi in Bodeli and Jetpur Pavi railway station chokdi. DeshGujarat
