Death penalty to Yusuf alias Ismail Hajat for kidnap, rape, murder of less than 2 years old girl child in Surat

Surat: Surat court has given the death penalty to Yusuf Ismail(23) in the 27 February 2023 rape case in which 1 year and 8-month-old girl child was kidnapped, raped, and killed. The accused had caused brutal injuries to a victim baby while raping her. A 400-page chargesheet was submitted in 11 days in this case.

Convict Ismail alias Yusuf Hajat, a migrant Muslim from other State, was a friend of the girl’s father and would often come to their house to play with the girl. He took the girl with him saying he would buy her potato chips. When they did not return after a long time, the girl’s family went out to search for her. They also alerted police. Police formed teams and started searching for the girl. Later, the girl’s body was found near a lake behind an abandoned building in Kapletha village. Police booked the accused for rape and murder under various sections of Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused was also booked under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The accused had escaped from the location after dumping the body. Police traced him to Lajpore village near the city and arrested him. The girl has bite marks on her abdominal area and had injuries in her private parts as well.
