Gujarat CM launches ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ campaign to honour martyrs

Tapi: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel today initiated the statewide ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ campaign on the occasion of World Tribal Day, dedicated to honouring the sacrifices of the courageous individuals who laid down their lives for the nation, according to a statement from the state government.

Scheduled to run from August 9 to 30, the national campaign will encompass diverse events across Gujarat, focusing on different themes. By August 15, programs aligned with these themes will take place in all villages across the state.

As part of the initiative outlined by the PM last month, inscriptions etched onto stones, or ‘Shilaphalakam,’ will be placed in 11,900 village panchayats of Gujarat as memorials for these martyrs.

Various activities under this campaign include tree plantations, painting, rangoli, and essay writing competitions celebrating the life and contributions of these national heroes. The police will conduct special flag marches to honor the martyrs.

Patel participated in the state-level celebrations of The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples in Gunsada village, Songadh taluka of Tapi district. Other ministers and dignitaries were present at district-level events across the state to inaugurate the campaign, the statement mentioned.

Addressing the audience, CM Patel highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s concrete efforts towards empowering both the tribal communities of Gujarat and the entire nation.

On World Tribal Day, Education Minister Kuber Dindor announced a scheme to provide financial support to Scheduled Tribe (ST) students who have secured admission based on merit in government-quota courses. Dindor revealed that for courses with fees exceeding Rs 6 lakh (after scholarship), the state government will cover the additional fee amount on behalf of ST students who have enrolled in such programs.
