Rajasthan govt is conveyed it can’t impede inflow of water into Dharoi dam as there’s a treaty for same: Gujarat Minister

Gandhinagar: The spokesperson minister of the Gujarat government stated today that the Rajasthan government cannot impede the inflow of water into the Dharoi Dam, as it would violate the existing treaty. He said the Gujarat govt has conveyed this to the Centre and to the Rajasthan government both through a letter.

Rushikesh Patel who is also a cabinet minister stated, “The dam could be constructed (by Rajasthan) if there was no treaty in place. When the Dharoi Dam was constructed, a treaty had already been made to determine the allocation of water.”

The minister further informed that the incoming water to the Dharoi Dam would not be halted. Kunvarjibhai, Minister of Water Supply and Water Resources, Government of Gujarat, has also written a letter regarding this matter, stating that they (the Rajasthan govt) cannot act against the treaty and halt the water flow. The central government has also been informed about this situation, he added.

The Rajasthan government has reportedly initiated the process for the construction of two dams that would obstruct the flow of water in the Sabarmati River and its tributary, Sei. This development could adversely affect the water inflow into the Dharoi Dam in Gujarat.

Earlier, in the year 2022 budget, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced the construction of these reservoirs on the Sei and Sabarmati rivers in Kotra tehsil of Udaipur to ensure a stable drinking water supply to Pali and Sirohi districts.
