AMC puts lien on 3 closed mills for unpaid property taxes

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has placed a lien on three non-operational mills due to unpaid property taxes in the North and Central zones. These three unused mills namely, Jubilee Mills, Gujarat Textiles Mills Co. Ltd, and Commercial Ahmedabad Mills Co. Ltd have pending tax dues of Rs 26.6 crore, Rs 4.6 crore, and Rs 3.2 crore, respectively.

Overall, the tax department has imposed liens on 133 properties. Among these, 60 properties are situated in the East zone, 33 are in the Central zone, 13 are in the South zone, 9 are in the North West zone, 8 are in the West zone, 6 are in the South West zone, and 4 are in the North zone.

Jainik Vakil, Chairman of the AMC Revenue Committee, clarified that as the outstanding tax remains unpaid, Deputy Municipal Commissioners in the relevant zones have been instructed to officially record the lien on these properties in the revenue records. The taxpayer who hasn’t paid the tax is expected to respond within a time frame of 30 to 60 days to the Mamlatdar. If the overdue tax is settled, the AMC will issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
