MLAs, MPs complain officials not listening to us; Gujarat Govt issues set of instructions in a circular

Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat has issued a circular instructing the officials of the government to be helpful to elected representatives, including the members of parliament and the State Assembly so that they can play their constitutional roles as representatives of the people.

This yet another set of instructions is apparently in response to increasing complains by elected representatives that the officials are not listening to the elected representatives and the pro-people issues and works therefore remain pending.

The government, through its general administration department (GAD), has instructed officials to save the phone numbers of MPs, MLAs, and other elected members such as the district and taluka panchayat presidents, mayors, and civic body chiefs.

The government has instructed officials that if they are contacted during office hours on a landline phone and if they are busy with some meeting or if they are unavailable and therefore they are unable to talk, then they should call back when they return to the office or when they are free.

The government has further instructed that when elected representatives dial the phone number of government officials on their office number, then a personal assistant or secretary of the official should note down the number and make a list of such numbers. When the official returns to the office, he/she needs to go through the list of calls to answer them back. DeshGujarat
