Probe launched into alleged irregularities in recruitment at Gujarat University

Ahmedabad: The state’s higher education department has appointed an investigative panel that has begun a probe into claims of misconduct surrounding the appointment of 24 professors at Gujarat University during the 2018-19 academic year.

The committee, comprising education department officials and principals, conducted a visit to the university on Monday. During their visit, they requested and examined various documents linked to the recruitment process.

It is learnt that in 2018, the university allegedly employed professors in various fields. This involved instructors for seven courses that were either funded through higher fees or on a self-financed basis. However, the university did not disclose this aspect in its published advertisement. There were also allegations that several candidates’ names were deliberated upon before the advertisement’s release, and these same candidates were subsequently appointed.

Sources from the university indicated that if the committee confirms any irregularities in the hiring process, some faculty members may face termination and could potentially be required to reimburse the salaries they received post-appointment. DeshGujarat
