Five pink toilets to open in Ahmedabad on Gandhi Jayanti

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) intends to open five new pink toilets on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2). These pink toilets, designated exclusively for women and free to use, are scheduled to be inaugurated at Kankaria Gate No. 3, Law Garden Civic Centre, Naroda Omni Square, Nikol Gam, and Odhav Gam.

In 2022, the AMC had come up with the plan to open three pink toilets in each zone of the city. Aside from the five set to open on October 2, construction is underway for ten additional facilities, while the AMC has yet to finalise locations for six others. The tender for these pink toilets was issued in 2022, and the entire project is estimated to cost Rs 6.5 crore.

Most of the pink toilets are being established near vegetable markets, ST bus stands, and areas with higher female foot traffic.

Pink toilets, exclusively for women, are also managed by female attendants and come equipped with amenities such as a feeding room, sanitary napkin vending machines, incinerators for disposing of used sanitary napkins, changing rooms with mirrors, and more. DeshGujarat
