Ahmedabad to get its first road built under the PPP model; AMC invites proposals
September 29, 2023
Ahmedabad: A 1.8-kilometer long and 60-meter wide section between Airport Circle and Indira Bridge Circle in Ahmedabad is set to become the city’s first road developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) recently invited proposals from contractors starting on September 23. The technical bids will be opened on October 17 to select the private contractor. Under the terms of the project, the private contractor will be responsible for constructing and maintaining the road for 15 years. In return, they will receive 15-year advertising rights.
According to a senior official from AMC’s engineering department, this will be the first road to be constructed under a PPP revenue model. The contract stipulates that AMC will retain a minimum of 25% advertising rights, the contractor will be granted the remaining 75% rights. The contract will be awarded to the bidder offering less than 75% advertising rights. These advertising places includes 24 gantry-mounted hoardings, advertising on every streetlight pole, 32 billboards, 37 vertical post hoardings, and advertising at every bus stop along this stretch.
The proposal was approved by AMC’s standing committee on September 13, but it faces opposition from shopkeepers because nearly 300 shops located along the road are expected to be affected by the widening. Nevertheless, the civic body has decided to proceed with the plan’s implementation. DeshGujarat
