Ahmedabad:Disputing the recent news reports about a child being in critical condition after allegedly being given phenyl instead of Zinc syrup at the AMC-run Shrimati. S. C. L. Municipal General Hospital in the city, the hospital has issued a press statement stating that the child is completely normal and is undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The incident was reported in the media on October 4th stating that an 11-month-old infant named Taimur Meo experienced foaming at the mouth after being mistakenly given phenyl by a nurse. Shaherkotda police have received a formal complaint about this incident, and the medication has been sent for forensic analysis.
The hospital today released a press note stating the factual report on news published in several newspapers about the allegation of providing phenyl instead of medicine to a child.
The statement said, “An 11-month-old baby named Taimur was admitted to the children’s ward at Smt. S.C.L. Municipal General Hospital on September 30th for fever, diarrhea, and vomiting. On October 2nd, around 8 AM, the child was given zinc syrup as per the doctor’s advice. The child’s mother selected the bottle from the batch number 31270 of zinc on the nursing table around 8:30. Later, at 12, the child’s mother came running and reported that after drinking the syrup given by the hospital, the child experienced some difficulty and sweating. Subsequently, the child was immediately examined by the on-duty doctors, during which no problems were found, and the child was stable vitally. The child’s mother alleged that the syrup given to them contained a suspicious substance like phenyl.”
“The syrup that was given inside the hospital is under AMC supply and had batch number 31270 manufactured by biogenesis, with an expiry date of 6/2025. The child’s mother also had another bottle of Zinc syrup medicine at the same time which is in police custody. The details of which are not known and have been sent to the FSL for further action,” the hospital added.
The Hospital further stated that, some newspapers incorrectly stated that the child’s condition is critical or the child is dead. Which is totally contrary to the facts and is incorrect. The child is now completely normal and is receiving treatment in the hospital. DeshGujarat
