ACB Gujarat nabs lineman in water supply department and aide in bribe case

Morbi: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has nabbed one Sumar, also known as Sameer Juneja (35), who works as a lineman in the Water Supply Department, and Hirenbhai, alias Bapu Patel (25), who works as a maintenance supervisor at Dharti Engineers in Wankaner here. They are detained in connection with a bribery case involving Rs. 50,000.

According to the details of the case, the complainant and his friend had taken a water connection from Dhanki (Surendranagar) to Hadala (Rajkot) GWIL Narmada Drinking Pipeline passing through Kachhiyagala. Eight days ago, the accused called the complainant to their office and informed him that they would file a case against both connections and impose a fine of Rs. 10 lakhs for each connection. The accused threatened the complainant by suggesting it would have adverse effects on their land. To prevent this, the accused initially demanded a bribe of Rs. 1.5 lakhs but later settled for Rs. 1 lakh, i.e., Rs. 50,000 for each connection.

Since the plaintiff was unwilling to pay the bribe, they contacted the ACB. In a trap set up by the ACB, both accused were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs. 50,000. The accused are currently detained, and further investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
