Record 1.13 lakh passengers rode Ahmedabad Metro on India-Pakistan match day
October 17, 2023
Motera: Ahmedabad Metro witnessed its highest daily ridership to date, with around 1.13 lakh passengers taking a ride on public transport on October 14, the day of the India-Pakistan match that took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Metro officials reported that the 112,585 passengers on Saturday marked the highest one-day ridership since the metro’s commercial operations began in October 2022. The previous ridership record, which occurred on May 28 during an IPL match, was 107,552.
According to officials, the metro typically carries around 75,000 passengers on a regular day, with daily ticket revenue ranging from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 12 lakh. However, on that Saturday, ticket revenue reached Rs 20.3 lakh. The metro service usually conducts 313 trips on a regular day, but this number increased to 383 on Saturday, with an average of 290 passengers per trip, compared to the usual average of about 220 passengers.
Officials noted that the average number of passengers per trip was particularly higher on the North-South corridor between APMC and Motera stations. A metro official pointed out that while the increase in the number of passengers seemed to be only around 37,000, it’s essential to consider that it was a second Saturday, and many government offices were closed. He estimated that the increase in ridership attributed solely to the match was approximately 55,000 passengers. DeshGujarat
