CBI books habitual offender from Vadodara for impersonating PMO officer

Vadodara: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against an individual who purportedly impersonated a high-ranking official from the Prime Minister’s Office and allegedly attempted to pressure an eye hospital chain to waive a debt of over Rs 16 crore owed by an Indore-based hospital.

Accused Maayank Tiwari residing in New Sama Road area, is alleged to have made phone calls and sent messages from his mobile phone to the promoters of ‘Dr. Agarwal’s,’ urging them to resolve the dispute with the Indore-based hospital, which supposedly owed Rs 16 crore to the hospital chain.

According to the details of the case, ‘Dr. Agarwal’s,’ a chain of eye hospitals, had entered into an agreement with two doctors who operated the Indore-based hospital to join their franchise, for which over Rs 16 crore was paid. However, the Indore hospital allegedly breached the terms of the agreement, leading to a dispute. ‘Dr. Agarwal’s’ sought a refund of their money and the termination of the agreement.

The matter was taken to the High Court, which appointed an arbitrator to mediate. In an interim injunction, the arbitrator directed the Indore-based hospital to deposit Rs 16.43 crore within four weeks.

Amidst the dispute, Tiwari reportedly contacted the promoters of ‘Dr. Agarwal’s,’ urging them to forgo the alleged debt and resolve the matter with the doctors overseeing the Indore hospital.

Upon learning of this, the Prime Minister’s Office promptly requested the CBI to investigate the alleged impersonation of a PMO official.”Prima Facie, this is a case of impersonation of a PMO official and misuse of the name of the PMO, since neither this individual nor the professed designation exists in this office,” the PMO stated.

It is learned that Tiwari was apprehended by the Waghodia Police earlier this year in a similar case, where he posed as a PMO official to secure admission for two children of an army man in a city school. DeshGujarat
