Shramik Annapurna Yojana: 50 lakh workers in Gujarat received ₹5 meals in a year

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Government’s Shramik Annapurna Yojana was reinitiated in October 2022. Within just one year, approximately 50 lakh workers in the state have benefited from this scheme by receiving meals at the cost of ₹5. With the welfare of the workers in mind, the government is also delivering meals to construction sites. Currently, meal delivery for over 50 construction workers is taking place at 13 construction sites, including cities such as Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, and Vadodara.

Providing meals to labourers at 118 ‘kadianakas’ in 10 districts

Under the Shramik Annapurna Yojana, meals are being provided at 118 kadianakas in 10 districts of the state. These districts include Ahmedabad (47 kadianakas), Gandhinagar (4 kadianakas), Vadodara (12 kadianakas), Surat (18 kadianakas), Navsari (3 kadianakas), Rajkot (9 kadianakas), Mehsana (7 kadianakas), Valsad (6 kadianakas), Patan (8 kadianakas), and Bhavnagar (4 kadianakas).

Under this scheme, workers are provided with meals that include items such as pulses, potatoes, mixed vegetables, roti (Indian bread), rice, lentils/dal, jaggery, and once a week, sukhadi (a sweet dish) or sheera (a sweet semolina dessert) is also given. Each meal is typically subsidized by the government, and workers receive a complete meal for just ₹5, with the government providing a subsidy of ₹37 for each meal.

Workers can get food through E-Nirman Card

Meals can be obtained by the workers with the help of an e-Nirman card at all centres of Shramik Annapurna. By scanning the QR code, one can get a one-time meal as a tiffin or on the spot. The beneficiaries, who do not have an e-Nirman card, are registered temporarily at the booth and then they can get food for 15 days. DeshGujarat
