Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat today nabbed an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and his accomplice, a former Sarpanch, in Dholka here in a bribery case involving Rs. 2,00,000.
According to the details of the case, a complaint was filed against the nephew of the complainant at Aslali Police Station, who had run away with a girl from a neighbouring village. Subsequently, the accused, Ishwar Bhai, the former Sarpanch and leader of Virpur village, and Karansinh Amarsinh Gohil, an ASI stationed at Gholka Rural Police Station, mediated in the reconciliation process. They brought the girl to the Kasindra Outpost and took responsibility for finding the boy and producing him at the police station.
Later, in exchange for helping the boy in a POCSO case and resolving the matter at the Aslali Police Station, both accused individuals demanded a bribe of five to seven lakhs from the complainant. Since the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe, he contacted ACB. Later, in a trap set up by the ACB, both accused were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe at accused ASI Karansinh’s residence.
Both accused individuals have been detained, and further investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
