AMC filed 24 police complaints in 2 months over obstruction/attack during Stray cattle capturing
October 27, 2023
Ahmedabad: A total of 24 police complaints have been filed by the Cattle Nuisance Control Department (CNCD) of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) against individuals who have either obstructed the impounding of stray cattle or physically attacked CNCD teams to release impounded cattle.
In the western part of the city, seven complaints were registered, including two in Bodakdev. One complaint each was recorded at the Sola, Naranpura, Chandkheda, Ranip, and Sabarmati police stations. The remaining 17 complaints were in the eastern areas, with three at Vatva, Nikol, and Aslali (in Ahmedabad rural) police stations. There were two at each of the Khokhra and Narol police stations, and one at each of the Ramol, Krishnanagar, Odhav, and Vatva GIDC police stations.
Civic officials noted that these pastoralist communities employ a specific modus operandi. Young people trail CNCD teams as they leave the office, providing information about their destinations. In areas where these communities hold sway, the teams are halted, and the impounded cattle are released by force.
In recent incidents on September 26 in Bodakdev, a cattle owner was booked after he allowed his animals to roam freely on Sindhu Bhavan Road, leading to a traffic obstruction. Additionally, the AMC officials registered complaints against individuals selling fodder on the city’s roadsides.
Another incident on October 8 in Ranip involved a complaint where a cattle owner released a cow onto the road near Sundarvan Flats, resulting in an attack on a woman and her daughter who were passing by.
Furthermore, on October 11 in Sabarmati, members of pastoralist communities gathered and assaulted a CNCD team, forcibly releasing impounded cattle. DeshGujarat
