Pay Rs. 1 lakh for removal of derelict AMTS bus stand in Ahmedabad

Pay Rs. 1 lakh for removal of derelict AMTS bus stand in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) has introduced a new policy regarding the removal of old bus stands that have fallen into disrepair. Under this policy, if a bus stand is derelict and in need of relocation, citizens requesting such removal will be required to pay a fee of Rs. 1 lakh. Previously, AMTS used to accept requests from citizens for the removal of nearby bus stands at no cost.

AMTS Committee Chairman Vallabh Patel explained that there are numerous bus stands in the city of Ahmedabad. Many citizens have raised concerns and requested the removal of these bus stands, as they have become nuisances due to the construction of new buildings, complexes, or residences in close proximity. In response, AMTS has implemented a new policy. According to this policy, any citizen who finds an AMTS bus stand inconvenient will be charged a fee of Rs. 1 lakh for its removal. This change is attributed to the costs incurred by AMTS for removing these bus stands.

During a committee meeting, the transport manager of AMTS proposed that there are a total of 776 bus stands in various areas of the city. Some of these bus stands become derelict as new buildings, complexes, or residences are constructed along the roads. Consequently, a new policy for addressing the removal of such bus stands was proposed. As per this policy, if the bus stand is unoccupied, the cost of removal will be set at Rs. 2 lakh from this point forward. Any citizen applying for the removal of a derelict bus stand will be required to pay this amount. Upon approval, necessary steps will be taken to eliminate the abandoned bus stand.

AMTS Transport Committee Chairman Vallabh Patel approved the policy with amendments. Instead of imposing a fee of Rs. 2 lakh on applicants, it was decided that a fee of Rs. 1 lakh would be charged for the removal of the bus stand. Up until now, AMTS did not levy any fees for the removal of bus stands, with the Municipal Corporation covering the associated expenses. However, the introduction of this new policy means that citizens will bear the cost of removing these inconveniences. DeshGujarat
