Godhavi: In the run-up to bidding for hosting the 2036 Olympics here in Gujarat, the state government is considering the acquisition of 500 acres of land in Godhavi to establish a sports city. Reports indicate that the land sought is positioned along the proposed 90-metre Ring Road.
A senior government official mentioned, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India will bid for the 2029 Youth Olympics and the 2036 Olympics. There is growing optimism about India potentially hosting both of these esteemed events, with Ahmedabad emerging as the leading choice among potential host cities.” Sources reveal that the central government, the Indian Olympic Committee, and the state government have commenced preparations for these hosting responsibilities.
Apart from Ahmedabad, other cities in Gujarat and India are being considered to host specific Olympic events, according to sources. Godhavi, located on the western side of Ahmedabad, offers excellent connectivity due to the convergence of several roads at this point, facilitating easy access from various parts of Ahmedabad, including the airport, railway station, bus rapid transit system (BRTS), and metro stations.
The state government has initiated a project exceeding Rs 4,000 crore to establish sports facilities in and around Ahmedabad as part of the plan to host the 2036 Games. Initially, there were plans for a games village near the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Motera. However, negotiations for modifications to two town planning (TP) schemes took longer than anticipated. Consequently, there’s contemplation about relocating a significant portion of the proposed sports city to Godhavi. DeshGujarat
