Ahmedabad: The US is expanding its workforce and is set to establish new consulates, including one in Ahmedabad, with the aim of reducing the waiting time for visa issuance from India, according to statements made by US Ambassador Eric Garcetti on Monday.
During a session organized by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in Delhi, Garcetti reported the recent opening of a consulate in Hyderabad and mentioned that potential locations in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad are under consideration for additional consulates.
“I had a look at the new premises for establishing a consulate in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Premises are being taken up in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad for setting up new consulates,” he remarked. Garcetti also noted that the issuance of US visas in India had risen by one-third in recent weeks, and the embassy is expected to issue 10-15% more visas than usual in the current calendar year.
