November 22, 2023
Ahmedabad: Customs authorities at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport here seized 1 kg of gold on Tuesday, which was concealed within a microwave oven. The interception occurred following a passenger profile assessment, and a detailed examination of the individual’s luggage resulted in the seizure of the gold, valued at approximately Rs 62.7 lakh.
This incident follows a notable gold seizure in October when Ahmedabad customs confiscated 20kg of gold, leading to the arrest of seven individuals. The smuggling tactics involved evasion of customs duty and included methods such as concealing gold paste in undergarments, transporting gold paste capsules within the body, hiding gold rods in a microscope, concealing gold on the aircraft, and placing it in perfume bottles, as stated by Ahmedabad customs. Additionally, separate cases involved the seizure of foreign currency and mobile phones. DeshGujarat
