AMC to install 2,500 new streetlights in the city

Ahmedabad: The city’s civic body has decided to install 2,500 new streetlights at a cost of Rs. 10 crores in the city over the next 3 months. Currently, there are more than 2 lakh streetlights across the city. Additionally, the timing for switching on the streetlights has been increased, keeping the winter season in mind. Now, the lights will be turned on around 6 pm and will stay on until 7 am the next morning.

These decisions were made during the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The Chairman of the Standing Committee, Dewang Dani, mentioned that people who go for a morning walk stay out late during winter, but at that time, they faced difficulties as the streetlights are switched off. Therefore, instructions have been given to adjust the streetlight on-off timer. So now the light will be switched between 6 to 6:15 in the evening and will be kept on till 6:45 to 7 in the morning. Thus, streetlights will remain on for 13 hours during winter in the city.

“A total of 99 projects have been planned to install streetlights in areas where there are currently none. These projects will involve the installation of approximately 2,500 streetlights at a cost of Rs. 10 crores, with more than 1,000 streetlights to be installed in the North West zone. New streetlights will be installed in these areas within the next 3 months,” he added.

In another decision, instructions have been issued to lock water tanks in Ahmedabad city for security purposes. Recently, during an inspection by corporation officials, an unlocked water tank was found. To prevent potential dangers and untoward incidents, all water tanks are now required to be locked, and verification has been instructed to ensure that the locks on the water tanks are continuously maintained.

It has also been decided in the standing committee meeting to provide land measuring machines to surveyors. The positions of surveyors in the corporation had been vacant for a long time, and recently, 35 surveyors were recruited. However, as these surveyors lack land surveying equipment, the Standing Committee decided to allocate machines to them. Accordingly, two machines will be allocated per zone, with a total of 14 machines to be provided. DeshGujarat
