AMC to build box cricket facility in Ranip

Ahmedabad: Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will build a Box Cricket facility in the Ranip area of the city. The decision has been made to construct a sports complex for both indoor and outdoor games in Ranip, falling under the nava Wadaj ward. The sports complex is estimated to cost Rs 2.81 crore and will include facilities for volleyball, badminton, box cricket, carrom, chess, and a yoga meditation center.

The rising popularity of box cricket over the past year has prompted the municipal corporation to introduce this facility.
Residents from Nawa Wadaj and Ranip areas will have access to this sports complex. The new sports complex, covering a 3451-square meter plot near Someshwar Tenement in Ranip, will feature a dedicated 745-square meter space for box cricket and a badminton court in 393 square meters. Additionally, a volleyball court, indoor games building (731 square meters), and facilities for chess, carrom, yoga meditation, reading, locker rooms, and parking will be included.

The construction contract has been awarded to Yamunesh Construction, and the project, costing Rs 2.81 crore, is expected to be completed in 1.5 to 2 years. The introduction of box cricket by the Municipal Corporation aims to cater to the growing interest in this sport and offer affordable playing rates, aligning with the current trend of constructing box cricket facilities around SP Ring Road and SG Highway, where charges range from 1,500 to 2,000-3,000 rupees per hour.
