Richness of the state and its people gives us liberty to impose fine of 10k: Gujarat HC CJ
December 13, 2023
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on a resident from Mehsana district who had filed a petition twice regarding the land grabbing issue.
Despite the petitioner’s advocate requesting a reduction to ₹5,000, Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal emphasised that the prosperity of the state and its residents grants the court the liberty to impose a ₹10,000 cost. She remarked that if it were the Allahabad High Court, she might have considered reducing the fine.
The Chief Justice said, “This is not the Allahabad High Court. The richness of the state and the richness of the people here gives us this liberty to impose ₹10,000 cost. Had it been the Allahabad High Court. I would have reduced it.” DeshGujarat
