Gujarat University initiates attempts to remove food stalls encroachment on its land

Gandhinagar: Gujarat University today moved its security persons to vacate the university land by removing encroachment created by food stall hawkers on a crucial road that leads to the university campus, LD Engineering college campus, Knowledge Consortium campus, Innovation hub, Girls Polytechnic, Physical Research Laboratory, ATIRA and Vice Chancellor’s bungalow among other places.

The road is University owned land but without gate as it is open for public to reach the places listed above. Dozens of food stall owners have set up their food stalls in shanty style look on one side of the footpath of this road. The vehicles of customers are parked on the road side, which creates further encroachment and the students have no option but to walk on the road. The outlook of these food stall gives bad impression to the area and littering and garbage generated due to these stalls creates another issue. Unhealthy and unhygienic nature of fast food is another area of concern. The food stalls operate till late in the night and apart from students, they also attract the people who have nothing to with university and other institutions on this road. University, LD Engineering and Girls’ Polytechnic have their own canteens, offering food at prices affordable to the students who are always short of budget.

The new Vice Chancellor, considering the facts above has initiated efforts for removal of these stalls. The university moved its private security men with provision of necessary open vehicles for removal of encroachment. As the area doesn’t belong to Amdavad Municipal Corporation(AMC), the University itself today tried to vacate the land amid obvious confrontation by the food stalls owners. DeshGujarat
