India’s first Plastics Engineering University in Vapi to commence first batch in 2024

Vapi: The construction of India’s first university, offering courses in plastics and allied engineering, the Plast India International University in the Dungra area of Vapi, is 70 percent complete. The first batch of this university, being built on 35 acres at a cost of Rs. 100 crores, will start from June 2024, admitting 60 students. Students from Ahmedabad, Surat, Vapi, Valsad, and Mumbai will come to study.
Plast India Foundation is setting up Plast India International University at a cost of Rs. 100 crores with the aim of providing international standard education to plastic engineering students. Teachers of this institute will receive special training at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, USA, enabling students to compete at the international level. Studying here will make it easier and more financially reasonable for students to get admission and study at the University of Massachusetts.
Several plastic industries are operating in Vapi, Daman, Silvasa, Sarigam, and Umargam. These industries will benefit from this university, while the university will also benefit from these industries. Students will be able to study in an industrial environment. The university will focus on plastic technology research, innovation, industry interaction, and entrepreneurial skills and will be digitally connected 24 hours a day for interaction.
Plast India conducted a survey of 50 leading industrialists, in which it was found that employees in the plastic industry have 1.5 years of work experience but do not have a degree. Hence, this university will play an important role in providing suitable professionals to the industries here.
The university will initially start the BTech Plastics Engineering course. Later, offering M-Tech and Doctorate programs. Additionally, short-term management development programs will be taught. The University is sponsored by Plast India Foundation, the apex body of the country’s plastics industry. Manan Seth, Project Incharge of Plast India International University, stated that the university was established in 2016 and obtained the status of a private university under the Gujarat Private Universities Act 2009. Managed by the Plast India Foundation, it was started with the aim of promoting the plastics industry and imparting education in the fields of engineering, technology, and management.
The courses offered include B.Tech Plastics Engineering, B.Tech Chemical Engineering (Phase-2), B.Tech Mechanical Engineering (Phase 2), Post Graduate (2 Years), M.Tech. Plastic Engineering, M-tech Chemical Engineering, and M-tech Mechanical Engineering.”
