Accident between two BRTS buses in Katargam area of Surat; One dead, 8 injured

Surat: In an unusual kind of road accident, one BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) bus collided with another BRTS bus from the rear side on Pramukh Swami bridge here. Several bikes and bike riders sandwiched between two buses, causing one death and leaving 8 persons injured, out of whom 3 are critical. The people nearby rushed and rescued those trapped between two buses.

The incident took place in peak hours and a large number of people gathered there. The people slapped the bus driver who hit another bus. The driver repeatedly argued that the brake of the bus failed and caused this accident.

Both buses were electric buses. Around five bikes were crushed between them. 9 persons were taken to hospital for treatment, among whom four were critical. One person is reportedly dead. Education minister Praful Panseriya was among those who rushed to the hospital to inquire about the health of those injured.

It is learnt that at around 7.30 pm, in Katargam GIDC area, one electric bus of BRTS hit the other electric bus of BRTS on the rear side. While the first BRTS bus was standing due to traffic on the signal, the other bus hit it from rear side. A rickshaw and a tempo three wheeler were also hit by the second bus.
