80-year-old woman torn apart by a pack of stray dogs in Amreli

Amreli: Several instances of humans being attacked by wild animals such as lions and leopards have been reported in the city. However, in the most recent event, an 80-year-old woman was attacked by a pack of dogs in the Gajerapara area.

Just a day before, a six-year-old child from a farmer family working on the border of Taraktalav village was picked up and eaten by a leopard. Now, another violent attack has occurred, where an 80-year-old woman named Shantuben Bhanabhai Degama was attacked by a pack of dogs, resulting in severe injuries and bloodshed.

The elderly woman, who used to live in the Gajerapara area, had visited her son’s house in Rokadiya Para on Tuesday. Due to some mental condition, she left her son’s house at night and was passing through a lane on Savarkundla road in Gajerapara the next morning. The 5-7 dogs attacked her fiercely, and bite her at several times. Even with the arrival of 108 ambulance, woman succumbed to her injuries at the civil hospital.

Locals claim that there are no dog-catching operations conducted by the Amreli Municipality to control the population of stray dogs. Similar situations are observed in Savarkundla and Rajula, where packs of dogs roam freely in society areas, causing harm to residents. Stray cattle, particularly in Rajula, often squat on roads, leading to accidents and injuries to pedestrians. Stray bulls also engage in fights, causing harm to people and property.

Earlier in the year, the Samdhiyala border of Bagsara witnessed a wave of terror from a dog gang, resulting in the deaths of nine children in various incidents. DeshGujarat
