Ahmedabad Police book Cadila Pharma CMD in rape case
January 01, 2024
Ahmedabad: On the directions of the Gujarat High Court, the city police booked Rajiv Modi, the Chairman and Managing Director of Cadila Pharmaceuticals, on Sunday in a rape case. The businessman is facing allegations under IPC sections 376 (rape), 354 (molestation), and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) based on the allegations of a Bulgarian woman.
The police have stated that before the arrest of the accused, statements will be taken from the complainant and the witnesses. The complainant has also implicated another company employee, Johnson Mathew, as an accomplice in the alleged crime.
On December 22, the High Court ordered an investigation into the rape allegations against Modi, criticizing a magisterial court for rejecting the woman’s application for an FIR.
The woman, who joined the pharmaceutical company in November 2022, accused the CMD of sexual harassment and rape in February 2023. She claimed she was terminated after filing the complaint, and her plea for an FIR was initially rejected by the magisterial court, prompting her to approach the High Court. DeshGujarat
