Dwarka: Following the tragic boat capsizing incident at Harni Lake in Vadodara, which claimed 14 lives on Thursday, authorities are on high alert, prioritizing the availability of life jackets and ensuring tourist safety in Dwarka. With numerous rides operating in Gomti River and Shivrajpur Beach in Dwarka, along with a ferry service at Bet Dwarka, strict measures have been implemented.
Ferry operators have been instructed to prevent overcrowding on the Okha Bet Dwarka route, mandating that every person on the ferry boat wears a life jacket. Life jackets are now compulsory for all individuals during rides. Dwarka Police are conducting checks along the banks of the Gomti River, emphasizing the importance of life jackets. Ride managers are urged to ensure compliance, with a stern warning of strict action against operators allowing rides without life jackets.
Commenting on the decision Rajya Sabha MP and Director-Corporate Affairs, RIL, Parimal Nathwani wrote on X, “Appreciate the decision of the authorities of making life jackets compulsory for the ferries at Beyt Dwarka and Gomti River in Dwarka. It was high time especially after the tragic incident in Vadodara yesterday. Boats carry people double their capacity & life jackets were hardly used. Fortunately, no accidents have happened, thanks to Lord Dwarkadheesh’s grace. Requesting the authorities to ensure that regular inspections are undertaken by the concerned to make sure all safety measures are implemented and followed without fail.” DeshGujarat
