Ahmedabad: In anticipation of an expected surge in passenger traffic in the future, the international terminal of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport has upgraded its infrastructure, including more metal detectors and a doubling of X-ray machines, etc.
To alleviate congestion at check-in and security checkpoints, SVPI Airport Terminal 2 has doubled the number of baggage X-ray machines at security checkpoints to six units. Three new door frame metal detectors (DFMDs) have been installed, bringing the total to nine at the city airport.
The airport has upgraded six out of 28 check-in counters to accommodate two parallel queues of customers. The process of upgrading the remaining check-in counters is also ongoing. The immigration area at the arrivals section of the terminal has been expanded by an additional 2,550 sq m to accommodate more passengers, with 24 counters now available to further alleviate passenger congestion.
In 2023, the city airport witnessed 1.16 crore passengers, meaning around 32,000 passengers traveled through the airport daily. DeshGujarat
