Gujarat Prohibition Dept implements new rules to eliminate agents and frauds
February 28, 2024
Gandhinagar: To clarify the liquor permit issuance process and eliminate fraudulent activities, the Gujarat Prohibition Department is taking measures to eradicate the involvement of agents who act as intermediaries between applicants and authorities.
In the new process, permit seekers will be contacted two to three times to verify their identity and schedule in-person meetings at the prohibition office. This decision follows the discovery of 73 applications facilitated by agents with forged signatures in November 2023 in the city.
The department has already implemented this revised system in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot, with plans for gradual expansion across the state. Additionally, individuals seeking permit renewals will be required to attend an in-person interview.
