NCP leader seeks to contest on Rajkot Lok Sabha seat
March 18, 2024
Rajkot: The main opposition Congress party is not contesting all 26 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Contesting just 24 of the total 26 seats in Gujarat is the party’s historic low so far. The party has left Bhavnagar and Bharuch seats for Aam Aadmi Party candidates as part of the I.N.D.I. alliance.
In the latest development, another I.N.D.I ally is likely to demand a seat to contest. Shadar Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) may demand a Rajkot Lok Sabha seat for its candidate as part of the I.N.D.I. alliance. Former Gondal MLA Chandu Vaghasiya has sought a ticket for the Rajkot seat and approached NCP’s national leadership, for which Congres is being consulted. Vaghasiya is the president of the Gujarat unit of NCP.
Congress has yet not announced its candidate for the Rajkot seat. In the past occasions, Congress had contested 25 seats, leaving one seat for NCP.
The BJP declared the name of Union Minister Parshottam Rupala for Rajkot’s seat in its first list. The campaign of Rupala is already in second gear at present. DeshGujarat
