Gandhinagar: The only two Congress Party corporators in the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) resigned from their posts in the civic body and the party today. Congress corporators Ankit Barot from ward no. 3 and Gajendrasinh Vaghela from ward no. 2 submitted their resignations.

Both leaders are expected to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday. With this move, the GMC no longer has any Congress party corporators and is now completely Congress-free.

Just before their resignation, corporator Ankit Barot stated, “We are resigning so that development work in our ward can pick up pace. We are public servants, and the reason for the resignation is for the welfare of the people.”

Gajendrasinh Vaghela also mentioned, “We do not need any commitment from anyone. We are resigning so that people can witness development in our wards.”

The GMC comprised a total of 44 councilors, with 41 aligned with the ruling BJP, 2 from Congress, and 1 representing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
