Gujarat govt plans to install a Battery Energy Storage System at Charanka
April 01, 2024
Modhera: The state government is planning to set up a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Charanka, which was the state’s first solar park established in 2010. This decision follows the success of this technology in Modhera, the nation’s first 24*7 solar village.
While talking to a news portal, an official familiar with the development stated that the Modhera project was the first demonstration project on a MW (megawatt) scale. Now, the government plans to establish a BESS equipped with 20 Mwh (Megawatt Hour) and 60 Mwh battery capacity systems for power storage at Charanka. The government intends to provide solar power to farmers during daylight for agricultural activities, and Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL) has initiated the bidding process for the BESS project.
It has also been learned that over the last two years, the Modhera project has facilitated net savings of ₹31 lakh for 1,400 solar rooftop consumers in and around the village. DeshGujarat
