Rajkot Court orders Rs. 13.7 lakh compensation for man killed by stray cow

Rajkot: A local civil court has ordered the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) to pay Rs 13.70 lakh in compensation to the family of a man who was fatally struck by a stray cow.

Additional Senior Civil Judge IM Shaikh, while delivering the judgement, emphasised that the government had failed in its duty to safeguard the man’s life.

Mukesh, aged 40, was riding his motorcycle when he was struck by a stray cow in the Ganjiwada area of Rajkot on August 17, 2018. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a local hospital a few hours later.

Following this incident, Minaben Rathod and her two minor sons, Prabhat and Gautam, filed a lawsuit. They sought compensation of Rs 15 lakh from the state government and the RMC for negligence leading to the death of Minaben’s husband, Mukesh Rathod, who was the sole provider for the family.
