AMC promises space near Gujarat College for 36 vendors

Ahmedabad: The legal dispute between the food vendors evicted from Khau Gali at Law Garden and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) concluded on Wednesday after the civic body assured them of space near Gujarat College.

Thirty-six food vendors, who were evicted from Khau Gali in 2019, withdrew their appeals in the Gujarat High Court, while the AMC guaranteed them that they would not be displaced from the newly allocated area, despite ongoing beautification efforts in that vicinity. Additionally, these vendors have been permitted to participate in the AMC’s auction of the space at Law Garden, now known as Happy Street.

Initially, all 63 evicted food vendors had taken their case to court when the AMC decided to remove them from Law Garden and revamp the street. After five years, 36 of them were fighting the legal battle for an alternative arrangement. DeshGujarat
