April 09, 2024
Surat: Police Inspector Alpesh Gabani of Varachha police station apologized for his mistake before the court, and told the judge that, if he is fined, his career will be over. He went on to say that he would never behave in such a manner in court. Consequently, the court forgave the inspector and canceled the contempt notice.
On April 5, Police Inspector Alpesh Gabani had told the judge to lower his voice, citing his position as a gazetted officer. The court issued a contempt notice due to this behavior. In his apology, Gabani emphasized that even a ₹1 fine from the court would lead to the end of his police career. He tendered an unconditional apology before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) and requested the court to withdraw the contempt proceedings.
Gabani submitted written apologies and pledged not to repeat such behavior. The court noted that Gabani tendered his apology with tears in his eyes. He faced criticism from the court not only for his behavior towards the judge but also with the lawyers. The judge reminded Gabani that everyone must respect the law and the court’s authority.
Earlier, the Gujarat High Court had instructed the lower court to conclude certain cases within nine months. However, even after serving three to four notices to Varachha Police Station, the court had not received the required documents for the case. Gabani faced the court’s ire for this delay. DeshGujarat
