May 30, 2024
Idar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat today booked two constables, one of whom is a head constable of Jadar Police Station here. The accused accepted a bribe of Rs 4 lakh and fled the crime scene.
According to the ACB, the complainant in this case had filed an application at Jadar Police Station. In lieu of withdrawing that application, as well as disposing of three other applications against the complainant and not harassing the complainant, accused Piyushbhai Ramjibhai Patel, Head Constable of Jadar Police Station, demanded Rs 10 lakh as a bribe. Out of this amount, he was promised to get Rs 5 lakh or as much money as could be arranged today.
The complainant did not want to give the bribe money to the accused, so he contacted the ACB and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, during a trap set up by the ACB, accused Piyush and accused Rameshji Raichandji Rathore, another police constable, demanded the bribe money and accepted Rs 4 lakh. However, suspecting the trap, both the accused escaped in the car brought along with the bribe money. Both are booked for helping each other in misconduct while being state servants. DeshGujarat
