Kidnappers take money from victim’s account via UPI by force

Surat: Three unknown individuals abducted a carpenter from Hirabagh Circle in the Varachha area of the city under the guise of offering furniture work. After that, employing a new modus operandi, they beat the victim, confiscated his mobile phone, and transferred Rs. 1.09 lakh via UPI from his account. The victim lodged a police complaint on Wednesday.

In his complaint, Devilal Udaylal Suthar, a 36-year-old resident of Indraninagar, Kapodra, said that he received a call offering furniture work while attending a wedding function in his native Rajasthan. Upon returning to Surat, he contacted the number and was subsequently picked up by three strangers in a car from Hirabagh Circle. The perpetrators lured Devilal under the pretext of offering furniture work, leading him to a secluded area near Baleshwar. There, the kidnappers took his mobile phone and cash. Obtaining the password for the mobile phone and the UPI pin from the carpenter, they transferred Rs. 99,000 to different accounts and looted a total of Rs. 1.09 lakh.

Following Devilal’s complaint, the police conducted an investigation and apprehended two suspects: Ghisaram, also known as Gisharam Malaram Jat (native: Rajasthan), and Sonu Aditya Sawai (native: Orissa). The police also seized the car used in the abduction, along with the stolen mobile phone and cash totaling Rs. 4.44 lakh. DeshGujarat
